Color Correction: Messed Up To Gorg Sombre

Ally Feezel (@hairbyallyfeezel), Director of Education and Master Stylist at Blonde Faith Salon (@blondefaithsalon), Austin, TX, says this client has "been trying to get her hair lighter for several appointments at another salon and was never happy with the result. She had her color done in the before pictures about 6 weeks prior to seeing me and was left with brassy uneven highlights and breakage - thankfully only underneath her hair." Here Feezel shares the details for this correction:

Existing color: Natural level 3 with uneven banding of a brassy level 7 with existing level 10 ends

- Apply fine balayage highlights with Wella Extra Cool Blondor with 20 volume. Bring the highlight up to the dark root, while somewhat "melting" it into the base. Do not put any lightener on the level 10 ends.

- Lift the base using Wella Koleston equal parts of 6/2 and 6/1 and 20 volume, dragging the root down into the brassy mid shaft to tone. Use a comb to soften the base color so there wasn't a line from the base color application.

- Lowlight along the uneven bands with Wella Color Touch 6/71 with 6 volume. The ends were left out and feathered with the same combing technique used at the base for a lighter effect towards the length.

- Process together for about 45 minutes.

- Hold each section out about 3 inches from the length to examine the entire strand to determine whether additional color was needed.

- Glaze from the root to mid shaft with Wella Color Touch 9/16 with 6 volume. Glaze the mids and ends with 10/01. Process together for about 10 minutes.

"The process took about 3 hours start to finish. With no haircut. She had very thick hair, and I did very fine sections, but a lot of them."
