Learn the steps to create a beautiful, soft level-10 blonde using a virgin application technique and Matrix lightener.

MODERN Instagram follower Amy Washburn, @amydoubleyouuu, a stylist at Regis Salon inside Minnesota's Mall of America, created this stunning blonde, and we KNEW we had to track down the formula. How'd she catch our attention? She uploaded the pic to Instagram, tagged @modernsalon, and used #hairdressermagic—MODERN's favorite way to see the best in hair color!
EXISTING COLOR
"My guest came in with natural Level 7 dark blonde hair," Washburn says. "The only color she had in her hair were some ombre-esque highlights throughout the bottom 6-8 inches.
STEPS
Begin by lightening the hair all over utilizing a virgin application technique with Matrix Vlight + 40-volume developer. Apply 1/2-inch off the scalp all through the mid lengths, feathering into the highlights on her ends. "I let it process to a level 9, light blonde, then applied Matrix Vlight with 20 volume to the new growth area," she says. Process to level 10, extra light blonde. After shampooing, conditioning and towel drying, apply Matrix ColorSync 2oz SPA + 2oz Matrix 10-volume Universal Cream Developer on the midlengths and process for 15 minutes. Then, rinse and towel dry, apply Matrix ColorSync 2oz 10A + 2oz Matrix 10 volume Universal Cream Developer all over and process for 10 minutes.
Rinse, towel dry again and choose random pieces through the mid lengths and apply Matrix ColorSync 1/2oz 8V + 1/2oz 10A + 1oz clear + 2oz Matrix 10-volume Universal Cream Developer. Process for 15 minutes, then emulsiffy color through the rest of the hair for 5 minutes.
STYLING
After shampooing and conditioning with Matrix Biolage Colorcaretherapie Shampoo and Conditioner, apply a nickel-sized amount of Matrix Biolage ExquisiteOil Strengthening Treatment to hair before blow drying.
