Kimemily Pham (@excellenthairsalon) owner and stylist of Excellent Hair Salon & Spa, Fremont, California, saw great opportunity with this client who came in with a 5 month old ombre. "Rayanne had 2 inches of new growth of a level 3 darkest brown," says Pham. "Zone 2 was a level 5 medium red brown. Zone 3 was pretty much a level 7 light orange and very overly processed. She wanted to go lighter on the ombré but changed her mind. For the health of her hair, we decided to go red, which she had never done before, which contains no ammonia or peroxide and will be gentle, better conditioning, and delivers more shine to her hair."
Here Pham shares the HOW TO:
Step 1: Section hair into 4 quadrants. Start in the nape first. Alternate weaved highlights between medium and one inch in width. Apply Matrix Light Master lightener +20 volume creme developer at zone 1 and 2. Apply Matrix 5+ Protopak treatment to zone 3. Lay foil flat. Do not fold. Continuing the same process leaving an inch out in between foils.
Step 2: Once all the foils are in place, apply Matrix colorSync 3oz 3N+ 3oz 10 volume creme developer to zone 1 and 2. Feather lightly to zone 3 of the remaining hair.
Step 3: Apply Biosilk color 2oz 4RO + 2oz 10vl color energy developer to zone 3.
Step 4: Process at room temperature for 20 minutes. Rinse well and towel dry.
Step 5: Fill the entire hair with Biosilk color 2oz 5RO+ 2oz 10 color energy developer. Process for 10 minutes . Shampoo with Tressa shampoo in Crimson Splash. Blow dry completely.
Step 6: Apply CHI CHROMASHINE in red from root to ends. Cover with a processing cap for 30 minutes at room temperature. Rinse well. Treat with Matrix 5+protopak treatment and place under dryer for 10 minutes. Rinse and style. Send her home with Tressa red shampoo in Crimson Splash.
