Christopher Dove, lead hairdresser for the NYFW Milly Fall/Winter 2014 Collection, was cool, calm and collected while backstage during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. "I love the fact that there is a strong story to the hair," he says. "Our models are ballerinas. They've just finished class, and have taken out their buns and put in a low ponytail. There is some movement, but not a lot." To continue with the "do it yourself" finish, Dove and team took a piece of the model's hair and twisted around the band. "There is some moisture to the hair," says Dove who used Wella Professionals Oil Reflectives to create the sheen. "It is perfect for this look, natural moisture, not heavy. It will not make it completely slick but will give it some shine."
Key to the look, adds Dove, is to start early "To let the hair set naturally and to allow some of the pieces around the hairline to come out. It's amazing how much work goes in to an 'undone' look!"
When asked about the whole ponytail craze at fashion week, Dove says, "I'm a hairdresser too. I want to do hair. But I understand that this is the designers vision and we have to follow through with that. They want it simple and clean to showcase the fashion. WE are here to serve the designer. You have to take a backseat and put your ego to rest."
