FORMULA: Pretty And Personal Color Melt

Amanda Joseph (@thehearsalon) of the Mia Bella Salon, Seattle, Washington says she does "hair everyday yet feel as though I've allowed mine to get into a boring and basic hair category. I decided it was time for a bold change. As a hairdresser I think we are walking advertisements. What better way to showcase my work than my own hair? It's been exciting already and a fun change."

Here she shares the how to for this pretty (and personal) color melt that she did HERSELF, at HOME, on her DAY OFF:

Step 1: Lighten hair with Kenra ammonia free lightener 40 volume developer. Process with heat for 15 minutes.

Step 2: Wash and repeat on damp hair to even out any miscolored areas.

Step 3: Wash and dry.

Step 4: Use Goldwell semi 6vv with 10 volume on the top area of the hair, wherever you want the bright colored part of the color melt. Process for 30 minutes at room temperature.

Step 5: Wash and dry.

Step 6: If roots are brighter than desired, re-apply and leave on for 15 minutes. While this is processing hang paint (balayage) back over any blonde areas you want brighter as well. Rinse and shampoo.

Step 7: While hair is wet apply Rusk Icy White toner on the blonde to tone. This will also leave a barrier so the hair will not turn pink from the red while rinsing.

Step 8: Wash entire hair and dry. Style with Moroccanoil and Oribe Texture Spray.
