Ruby Devine (@rubydevine) of Frizzles Salon & Spa, Alexandria, VA, teamed up with fellow stylist Ash Fortis (@xostylistxo) to create this design they call "The Wildest Orchid". The post went viral within moments of posting. "I'm so blessed to have awesome stylist friends who trust me to give them a look that reflects the image that they would like to present to clients, and one that equally represents their own personal style," says Devine. Here she shares the color HOW TO:
Step 1: Apply Pravana 000 and 20vol mixed with Olaplex to remove previous Vivids (a trick I learned from the awesome Vivids master, Rebecca Taylor). Shampoo.
Step 2: Apply Joico Creme lightener and 20vol on the new growth.
Step 3: Then take the same mixutre but add Olaplex for the mids and ends. This will bring the first 2 inches up to a nice pale level 11 and her mid/ends to a perfect level 9 apricot.
Step 4: Apply the No. 2 step of Olaplex and let it process for 20 minutes. Shampoo and dry and then mix three colors for a color melt:
A: For the base: Pravana vivids orange, wild orchid, magenta and violet (for a burnt berry shade)
B: For the mids: silver, vivids pink, neon blue and violet.
C: For the ends: mystical mint , pastel blue and neon blue.
Step 5: Because the copper undertones were still so prominent, work the lavender mixture into the sections where blue is desired,("knowing that I wanted to cancel the orangey tones, and allow the blue to shine.")
Step 6: Process for 30 minutes and then rinse in cold water.
NOTE FROM RUBY DEVINE:
"I often find that the more I work my Vivids through massaging, really helps to ensure proper saturation, and it's almost as if it helps drive the color better. Fashion/vivids color work is the closest to painting we have as stylists, so the formulas are the most vague and almost impossible to recreate. I do find that it is always best to mix from lightest to darkest, so I always mix the bulk of my pigment from my lightest color, and mix until the color looks just right."
