THE EVENT:GLOBAL ZOOM 2018, the Goldwell/KMS/Oribe annual event just wrapped up in Toronto, Canada. The annual event celebrates the Color Zoom Challenge Competition and the launches and exciting new techniques introduced by the brands under the Kao umbrella. More than 3000 salon pros attended for two days the see the new collection and to learn and get inspired from top Goldwell, KMS and Oribe artists.
THE COMPETITION: The Color Zoom Challenge is one of the hottest competitions in the industry today. Thousands of salon pros from dozens of countries entered the challenge and 72 finalists were invited to participate at the Global Zoom event. The event features a "Parade of Nations" and an elaborate stage show to introduce the finalists and the new looks for 2019.
THE WINNERS: 2018 marked an unprecedented victory for the Netherlands. All three gold winners, in all three categories, were from the country:
Nushka Barbosa in the New Talent Category (artists with less than five years of professional experience.)
Roos Topley in Creative Category (artists with more than five years of experience.)
Lieke Nijenkamp in the Partner Category (artists who have worked for Goldwell at shows or seminars.)
STYLISTS’ FAVORITE AWARD:
Voting for this category took place online where anyone with access to an online platform was invited to choose a favorite. The winners were: Lieke Nijenkamp from the Netherlands (Partner Category,) Nushka Barbosa from the Netherlands (New Talent) and Pedro Alvarez from Mexico (Creative.)
HIGHLIGHTS: Above and beyond the exciting competition, there were numerous highlights. The Artist Sessions, held the day after the event, offered opportunities for attendees to learn more about new launches and techniques. Artists presentations by Mario Krankl and Mazella & Palmer among others offered everything from consumer friendly looks to the avant garde. Out on the event floor there were pop-up education and special presentations by Goldwell, KMS and Oribe teams where artists shared the latest in color and design. There really was something for everyone.
THE NEW COLLECTION: The Color Zoom Creative Team introduced the REMIX COLLECTION created by the Global winners 2017 including Mio Sota, Dylan Tung and Maksim Sotnikov, along with Goldwell International Artists Agnes Westerman and Sascha Haseloff. REMIX is a happy and colorful collection featuring block coloring and strong contrasts with powerful accents and special touches like a feathered crown. A blend of pop art, mod design and graphic minimalism, the collection is described as playful, energetic and refreshing.
PARTIES: There were kick-off parties, “after” parties and farewell parties, as well as breakfast networking and get-together dinners. Global Zoom 2018 was one of the juiciest and most exciting events in the professional beauty industry.
