Cynthia Lumzy ( @cynthialumzy), a color specialist and owner at My Alter Ego Salon in Dixon, Illinois was asked to create a subtle bold color look for her soon to be married client. "I chose the 'peekaboo' to achieve not only the boldness desired but a true element of surprise when hair was lifted or parted," she says.
Here Lumzy offers the details:
Step 1: Section hair horizontally from middle of ear to ear about 4 inches wide.
Step 2: Pre-lighten hair to a level 10.
Step 3: Dry hair and create different size zigzag subsections vertically and apply your choice of formulas. The application was done without foils (open air application).
Formula A: Pravana Vivids Magenta
Formula B: Pravana Neon Pink + Vivids Pink + Clear
Formula C: Pravana Wild Orchid + Vivids Violet +Clear
Formula D: Pravana Neon Yellow + Neon Green
Formula E: Pravana Neon Blue
Formula F: Pravana Vivids Red + Wild Orchid + Magenta + Clear
Formula G: Pravana Vivid Yellow
Formula H: Pravana Vivids Green + Pravana Vivids Blue + Clear
Step 4: Process for 30 minutes.
PRO TIP: When working with direct dyes, add your lightest color first and add drops of your deeper shade until you reach the desired color. At this point you can swipe the color on a white piece of paper to see true tonal results before applying. After processing time has expired, rinse with cold water slowly until all the pigments are out. Follow with Pravana Vivid Color Protect Shampoo and Conditioner. For your finish, apply Pravana Relax Straightening Creme. Blowdry, flatiron and spray CHI Rapid Shine for sheen.
