Kelly Anne Churnside of Salon Cielo in Covina, CA, created a cut inspired by the singer Pink and a vibrant Pravana color combo. The outcome? A look that's feminine AND edgy!
Churnside's client started with hair previously lightened to level 10, and she was tired of the platinum blonde. Churnside started with the cut and moved to color after and shared her steps with MODERN.
THE CUT
STEP 1: Pink's signature faux-hawk was the inspiration for this cut. Section out a horseshoe at the top of the head and clip that out of the way.
STEP 2: Using clippers with a #2 guard, shave up the back and sides.
STEP 3: Use shears to blend and clean up the edges.
STEP 4: For the horseshoe section, start at the back and travel forward using a slightly graduated technique to create a shorter, playful top blending into a longer bang.
THE COLOR
STEP 1: Again section out a horseshoe at the top of the head and separate from the shaved sides and back.
STEP 2: Using a weaving technique, weave in rotating colors in Pravana Mystical Mint, Pravana Blissful Blue and Pravana Luscious Lavender.
STEP 3: Achieve a highly blended color by leaving no hair out from the weave. For each slice of hair that is weaved, the hair left out from that foil goes in a separate foil with a different color and so on. Every piece of hair on top should be in a foil with nothing left out.
STEP 4: For the back and sides, use Ion Color Brilliance in Aqua.
STEP 5: Process under a hooded dryer for 20 minutes. Allow hair to cool down before rinsing with cool water.
THE FINISH
STEP 1: Cut into the top of the hair using a razor to create texture, movement and to bring attention to the detail of the color.
STEP 2: Use Healthy Sexy Hair Soya Want It All leave-in treatment and Big Sexy Hair Root Plump Plus focused on the base to create life.
STEP 3: Using a medium round brush, blow dry hair going forward and then piece it out using Kenra Volume Spray.
