Samantha Tarini (@deathbycouture) of the Shag Me Salon, Las Vegas (@shagmesalon) specializes in color with an emphasis on creative color, extensions, and total transformations. "I also do freelance graphic design on the side, simply because i have a passion for making anything I can beautiful."

When we saw this transformation on her IG page, we reached out to learn more. Here she offers the HOW TO:

"This particular client came in wanting something fun and different. She had seen my work and decided to give me a try. Her hair is naturally light, about a level 7, but she has a history of holding a lot of unwanted gold, and is someone who prefers neutral and cool tones. She had about 2 inches of regrowth, followed by a band of faded previous color that was very gold, and the ends were lifted to a light blonde but still had some warmth in them." The following process took about 3 1/2 hours:

Step 1: Blend Schwarzkopf bleach with 30 volume, with purple color balance corrective drops "since even though she is light she has that hair that is deceiving and tricky to lift."

Step 2: Begin application on the colored band.

Step 3: Then apply to the roots.

Step 4: Process for 40 minutes and then shampoo. Towel dry.

Step 5: Apply Matrix ColorSync toner in SPV with 10 vol to the hair.

Step 6: Process for 10 minutes, rinse and dry completely.

Step 7: Now for the fun colors. Begin application to the root: Special Effects Pimpin Purple. "I took my time applying to the first inch and a half of hair with a bowl and brush, taking care not to leave any excess color that could bleed and spot."

Step 8: Next blend a mix of Special Effects Joyride diluted 60/40 with conditioner and with just a tiny drop of Special Effects Atomic Pink. Apply with a brush to about the next 2 inches.

Step 9: Then use hands to help blend it with the purple.

Step 10: Balayage down in preparation for the next color.

Step 11: Using Pravana Silver with a drop of Special Effects Wild Flower, diluted slightly with conditioner ("about 80/20"), balayage blending from the pinkish-lavender down, leaving about the last 2 inches of ends untouched. "Because of the caution required, especially with the bold colors like the darker purple when leaving the rest of the hair light, application took about an hour."

Step 12: Process for 20 minutes and then shampoo in cold water to prevent bleeding.
