Mid-September, Keune Haircosmetics invited top artists, salon owners, stylists and MODERN SALON to Atlanta hot spot Southern Gentleman for its VIP Trend Collection Launch Party to debut the brand’s new color/cut/style collection, along with a sneak peek of new launches.
The collection, Tactile Rituals, is designed to be a celebration of craftsmanship, passion and skill showcased in a collection of looks inspired by interior design, fashion, urban lifestyle and grooming trends.
Keune artists including George Alderete, Shannon King and Leah Vincent created the models’ looks for the trend debut at the Keune Academy by 124, using the award-winning space to bring color, cut and style the models for the evening’s main event. The three looks, Washed Wood, Copper Patina and Mahogany Muse, have a color application and formula approach, cutting how-to and two versatile styling recommendations in the Keune Tactile Rituals Step-By-Step tech guides distributed to guests at the launch party.
Washed Wood: Inspired by smooth sandy beaches and pieces of driftwood worn smooth by the sea and lightened by the sun. To create the look, Keune artist George Alderete (@colorboygeo on Instagram and Periscope), alternated Keune’s new Tinta shade in 8.21 and lightener in back to back foils. [WATCH THE DEMO]
Copper Patina: This color is inspired by a “dram of whisky enjoyed in the comfort of a vintage leather sofa.” Variations of Tinta Color in 5.34 and 8.3 are stacked on the hair strand to create a seamless blend of gradiation. “The beautiful, soft golden copper feeling is enhanced by the gradually blended colors in the hair,” says Kimm Koffijberg, Keune’s global color director. “Because the individual copper gold shades are very close in tone, the dark and light shades create beautiful, shiny structure and a natural effect. Copper Patina provides a clarifying color feeling, as if the golden copper nuances were enlightened by reflection.”
Mahogany Muse: The color is inspired by the structure and smoky appearance of mahogany wood. “The deep, dark mahogany brown basic color, when combined with mahogany gold and copper, creates serenity and authenticity in the color shades that we see,” Koffijberg says. “This feeling gives a chic, classy color representation. Mahogany Muse gives a strong color representation, in which the reddish-brown accent has a strong effect.” [WATCH THE DEMO]
The product launches are part of the Design line—Press Wax, Texture Cream and Thickening Cream—designed to add volume and soft texture to all hair types.
Press Wax: Combines the lightness of a spray with the qualities of a wax to add body and volume. “With women wearing more natural texture, Press Wax becomes a perfect finishing tool,” says Chris Sulimay, Keune’s academy and technical director. “Try using Press Wax after the hair is completely dry. Take the hair in sections starting underneath, apply a small amount of Press Wax to the section and twine and rouge the section with your fingers. Repeat throughout. This will leave the hair with beautiful bounce and softness.”
Texture Cream: Combines the softness of a cream with the styling qualities of a paste. It features flexible fibers, designed to strengthen the hair’s structure while providing a flexible hold that restyles with ease.
Thickening Cream: Boosts body and volume to thin, limp hair, while providing heat protection. Provitamin B5 penetrates the hair shaft and protects against damage resulting from irons and dryers. “To create a natural texture, apply Thickening Cream to towel-dried hair and power-dry to 80% before smoothing the ends with a medium round brush,” Sulimay says. “Complete with a curling wand using random sections, curling hair only at the mid-shafts, leaving the ends out.”
The sneak peek for January 2016 is the much-anticipated Color Craving line of direct-deposit haircolor, designed to fade in 6-8 shampoos. The line can be used as an in-salon service and also as a retail component so clients can maintain, refresh or change her haircolor as a fashion statement. [WATCH THE DEMO]
