Love the Hair, Love the Gown: The Oscars

Tuning into Red Carpet commentary on the Oscars via Social Media, response was overwhelmingly positive, complimentary and enthusiastic. Everyone kept the claws firmly in paws when remarking on the night’s hair, makeup and overall looks.

Tuning into Red Carpet commentary on the Oscars via Social Media, response was overwhelmingly positive, complimentary and enthusiastic.  Everyone kept the claws firmly in paws when remarking on the night’s hair, makeup and overall looks.  Lucky for us, we had the oh-so-fabulous makeup artist David Maderich and the beauty and style blogger, Kristan Serafina hosting a live-Twitter party and they invited everyone to follow and join in the fun.  While it wasn’t possible to pin down one specific trend, there seemed to be a few including buns, bangs and side-swept waves.

  • This is definitely the night of high buns - does anyone think it looks too bridal?

  • #Redcarpet Filled with Structured Buns and Chignons.. Is this the new trend for Updo's? Talk amongst yourselves

  • Olivia Wilde should be a much bigger star - look amazing in black and pulled back bun - the style of the night.

  • LOVE Tina Fey's big bun - did Ted do it?

Wella Professionals had this to say about getting the bun just right:

  • Wella Celebrity Stylists tip: Placement matters - style your hair high or low with a bun. A middle bun is less flattering.

These lovelies sported the look: Tina Fey, Emma Stone, Octavia Spencer, Gwyneth Paltrow, and  Jennifer Lopez.

Rooney Mara’s shiny, blunt bangs perfectly set off the clean lines of her gown.  Other beautiful women wearing  bangs included Michelle Williams, Anna Ferris, and ‘Bridesmaids’ Rose Byrne and Ellie Kemper.

Stacy Keibler, Kelley Osbourne and even Miss Piggie swept it to the side to highlight shoulders, collarbones and  their jewels.

Here is what David Maderich thought about  some of the makeup tonite:

  • Cameron needs more makeup - I can see her bikini lines!!

  • Lips like Michelle Williams - Lip pencil is girls best friend – keeps everything in place and crisp & perfect.

  • Emma Stone has too much bow! Love the hair and makeup - love the pink eyeshadow.

And, finally, a wrap-up from David:

My favorite look of the night - Michelle Williams - in coral LV and coral lips!! Stunning.

My worst look of the night - Gwennie in Tom Ford - washed her out and sloppy ponytail.
