THE EVENT: Miss USA 2013, sponsored by Farouk Systems, Las Vegas, Nevada, June 16, 2013
THE DETAILS: As presenting sponsor, Farouk Systems was given the opportunity to bring the CHI team backstage to create Beauty Queen finishes on the 51 contestants, as well as several of the judges and guests. While there was one bob, one crown placed bun and one head of outrageous beautiful corkscrew curls, the remaining contestants requested long waves or curls, with volume coming at the root and crown. The texture was created with either of the two irons introduced at the show: The CHI ARC, a rotating curling iron or the G2, the newest flat iron offered by CHI. THE RED CARPET: One of the highlights for Modern Salon Media was the opportunity to interview the celebrities invited to walk the red carpet before the show. Although told we could ask just one question, it turns out OUR question was one that excited many of those who came to the Modern microphone. Our favorite answers came from Jersey Shore DJ Pauly D., Christina Milian, NeNe Leakes, The Biggest Loser’s Bob Harper, Nikki Bella, Dancing With The Stars Lindsay Arnold and CBS News Correspondent Mo Rocca.

AND THE WINNER IS: Miss Connecticut was crowned Miss USA 2013. The medium brown beauty sported classic long waves from a side parting with caramel highlights, stemming from a side parting. The volume came courtesy the CHI ARC and BioSilk Volumizing Therapy Texturizing Powder. The fan favorite will now represent the USA at the Miss Universe competition in Moscow on November 9.
THE LAST WORD: Mary Wilson, Vice President of Marketing, was thrilled with the results and thrilled that Farouk Systems is working to empower women through beauty. “This is our 9th year,” she says. “We recognize that this is about confident beauty as a way to lead young women. It’s a philanthropic outreach in our effort to lead and build women in a positive way."
