The Big Premiere

The Event: Premiere Orlando 2015 at the Orlando/Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, May 30 through June 1, 2015.

The Details: More than 57,800 salon pros and owners, students, educators, product manufacturers and more attended this year’s show, which hosts more than 800 exhibiting companies on 7.3 acres of show floor. Education: Hands-on classes were available in a wide range of topics including cut, color, style and business, and attendees signed up for workshops as well. The show stayed on-trend with texture- and men’s style-focused courses, including a texture panel hosted by MODERN SALON’s publisher, Steve Reiss, and Michelle Breyer of TextureMedia andnaturallycurly.com.

The Panel: “Understanding the Textured Consumer,” featured texture experts Fabian Cisneros, master artistic director ofMatrix; Richelieu Dennis, founder ofSheaMoisture; Giannandrea, creative director of Macadamia Professional; Shari Harbinger, VP of education for DevaCurl; Amy Michleb, director of education for Keratin Complex; and Jane Carter, co-founder of Jane Carter Solution. Reiss and Breyer presented industry research on texture clients as well as stylists, and the panel was very collaborative with the audience in terms of discussion and topics.

Buzzworthy: Nail brand CND allowed nail pros to trade in used nail-curing lamps for the brand-new CND LED Lamp, which drew attendees to CND booths in droves. Men’s education continues to be a big draw, and makeup artist Patrick Starrr gave classes to jam-packed rooms that were nearly impossible to enter because of the standing-room-only crowd.

Salons of the Year: The 2015 SALON TODAY Salons of the Year winners were announced on Saturday at an invite-only event. The competition highlights salon design and renovations and utilized a panel of expert judges to choose Buzz Salon in Iowa City, Iowa, as the 2015 Salon of the Year.

Save the Date: Premiere Orlando 2016 will be June 4-6, 2016.
