What do you do with a client who has a conservative job but wants to be adventurous with her haircolor at the same time? Here's an option! Try the peek-a-boo technique!

Amy Godo (@color_ahead) ofJV Hair Design Salon in Stratford, Connecticut says, "This client was looking for some fun, fantasy color and she found me on Instagram. This was her first visit with me. She has a conservative job as a pharmaceutical tech, so it had to be hidden like 'underlights.' She let me choose the colors and I just love this combination! She had old, black box color underneath so I had to be careful during the lightening process."

Here, Godo shares the how-to:

STEP 1: Section off, ear to ear, in the back underneath. Pre-lighten with Scruples Power Blonde and 40 volume with Bondplex in the formula to maintain the integrity of the hair. Lighten to a level 9-10.

STEP 2: Shampoo and apply Step 2 Bondplex and leave in 10-15 minutes.

STEP 3: Tone to remove remaining gold and create a neutral palette using Goldwell 5 Minute Express Toner 9 Silver. Shampoo and dry hair.

STEP 4: Section off the pre-lightened back from the rest of the hair. To the top apply Scruples Shadowlights 6NA with Demi developer.

STEP 5: To create the peek-a-boo "underlights" to the pre-lightened section apply Joico Fiery Coral, Joico Mermaid Blue, Scruples Purple and Scruples Pink.

STEP 6: Process for 30 minutes and then shampoo the top color only, using cold water.
