Alexis Thurston (@alexisbutterflyloft), owner/stylist at Butterfly Loft Salon and Spa and the Ubungalows, Encino, Calfornia, (@butterflyloftsalon) impresses us with SO MANY transformations, but this one, we believe, is particularly beautiful. Here she shares the HOW TO for this pink shadow root on faded out previously colored hair:
STEP 1: Mix equal parts Wella Blondor and Wella Cool Blondor with 30 volume and Olaplex. Paint and saturate all hair 3/4" away from root to ends. Process 15-20 minutes. Do not rinse.
STEP 2: While Step 1 is processing, apply Wella Blondor and 20 volume with Olaplex to the roots and smudge to step 1. Process everything together another 30 minutes.
STEP 3: Lightly wash with cool water, towel dry and apply 15 grams Wella Color Touch 10/6 + 1 gram Wella Color Touch /68 with 24 grams Wella Color Touch 1.9% developer and 8 grams of Olaplex part 2 conditioner. Apply all over and process for 6 minutes, then shampoo and apply Olaplex part 2 conditioner. Process for 10 minutes and then rinse and blow dry hair.
STEP 4: Mix 40 grams Schwarzkopf Pearl Essence Cotton Candy with 40 grams of 6 volume developer. Clip hair from occipital bone up and away, and apply mixture all over back area. Place Embee Meche on top of that area and take small slices of hair and apply color to root feathering out into blonde about 1" in a bricklayer pattern until all root area is covered. Process 15 minutes, light shampoo and condition.
STEP 5: Undercut the back area with scissor over comb to occipital bone continuing in a soft crescent shape to back of both ears. Cut top disconnection in a textured and layered A-line to chin with straight shears and 30 teeth texture shears. Blow dry and style hair with Kevin Murphy Knight Rider pomade and Kenra 25 hairspray.
