Lynn Huynh (@lynn_at_excellenthairsalon) a stylist at Excellent Hair Salon & Spa Inc, Fremont, California, was thrilled with the opportunity this first time client presented.
"She wanted to go purple at first, but at the end of the consultation, we decided to go red instead. So the question was how red? Whisper, scream, or shout? She said SHOUT! The rest is history!"
Here, she shares the details for this transformation:
Existing history:
Two-tone color ombré with 5-6 inches of new growth of a level 3, darkest brown. Existing brown at the crown. The rest of the hair was blonde.
Preparation: Cut 2 inches off and layer the hair.
Step 1: Starting at the nape, take thin subsections and alternate between slices and babylights. Apply 1oz of Matrix Light Master Lightener + 1oz 10 volume + Olaplex. Apply to the new growth only, leaving 1" at the root out.
Step 2: Once at the crown, mix the same lightener but bump to 20 volume (without Olaplex). Apply in the same manner.
Step 3: Once all the foils are in place, go back and balayage the brown hair at the crown left outside the foils. Still do not touch the blonde hair. Process at room temperature for 30 minutes. Rinse well, shampoo lightly. Towel dry hair.
Step 4: Apply Redken Shades EQ 05n 1oz+03n 1/2 oz +11/2oz processing solution at the root. Stretch out past the highlighted area.
Step 5: Once done, mix a fill formula for the back: Matrix ColorSync 6rc 2oz+2oz 10vl developer. Apply to the previous blonde only. Let it process for 10 minutes then shampoo with Tressa water in Fluid Fire. Blow dry completely.
Step 6: Apply 6oz of CHI Chromasine color in Red from root to ends. "Try not to touch the scalp to prevent staining." Process at room temperature for 40 minutes. Rinse, shampoo with Tressa water color in Fluid Fire. Treat with Olaplex #3 for 10 minutes.
"We loved it so much, we decided to give it a blow out, curls, then did 5 different braids. She felt like a Mermaid! All the braids were done by Kim."
