An Interview with Peter Rosas

Let's spend a little time with my friend, Peter.

Peter Rosas, tried college, and felt it just wasn’t for him. In 1979, his uncle owned several salons in the Palo Alto, CA area, and, it was his dad who suggested hairdressing for him. “People will always have to cut their hair and you can work anywhere in the world. Why don't you go to the local beauty college, take a tour and see what you think?” said his Dad.

“Well, I did, and I was hooked,” says Peter who loves the Hollywood Movies of the 40's and 50's, the glamour, the clothes Cary Grant wore and always wanted to be part of that concept. “I made a deal with my dad if he would make the beauty school’s down payment, I would make the monthly payments, and if it didn't work out, then I would go back to college.” Well, thirty years later, he is still a stylist and loves it. Peter works a full clientele at Lalou Salon http://www.lalousalon.com near the exclusive Kierland Commons and Scottsdale Marketplace area of north Scottsdale AZ.

Peter later attended a one-week course at The Vidal Sassoon's Academy in Santa Monica http://www.sassoon.com/academy/that changed his life. He saw an opportunity to apply as an assistant and was hired, trained, and he worked at Sassoon Beverly Hills and San Francisco. Peter also worked with Martin Parsons, http://www.martinparsons.com/flash/who took his career in a different direction. Teaching the magic of Up Do's, and sharing it with young people, who are assisting or still in school, became a passion for Peter. “This is something Vidal Sassoon said himself, that we have to give back,” he adds, smiling.

As a busy father of two young children with a full clientele, Peter needed to simplify his life, plus, he says,  “... offer excellent customer service, so I went the high tech route and created theSalon Client Dataapp that totally keeps track of my clients. With the use of my cell or tablet, my clients are always with me, I can attend to their every request.”

Peter’s advice:

~Know how to deliver great customer service, how to listen and communicate.

~Develop your own sense of style. Who would you like to emulate?

~Are you more of a cutter or a colorist, or do you want to do both?
~Learn to document/photograph every service you do.
