The Oribe team invited Editorial Nail Artist Miho "Mei" Kawajiri to create a design to honor of the launch of their new Intense Conditioner for Moisture & Control. Miho owned the Foxxy Nail Salon in her native Tokyo where she offered an omakase service, a term borrowed from Japanese cooking. (Omakase is an expression used at sushi restaurants where patrons leave the selection of fish up to the chef). At Foxxy Nail Salon the clients invited Kawajiri to create whichever design she wanted, the perfect example of Omakase. Kawajiri moved to NYC last year and quickly became a star. Her client list includes Swarovski, Jill Stuart, Harper’s Bazaar, Miu Miu and La Perla. “My signature style is geometric, abstract nails,” says Kawajiri, who opted against creating a literal interpretation of the ombré bottle and instead chose to play with the variation in colors for a more graphic design.

STEP 1: File nails into desired shape and clean up the cuticles using a rounded square for this look.

STEP 2: Apply a basecoat. Kawajiri uses Butter London Nail Foundation Flawless Basecoat, which has a nude tint and smooths tiny ridges and imperfections in the nail.

STEP 3: Apply one coat of Knackered by Butter London, an iridescent opal shade.

STEP 4: Using a turquoise hue with a slight shimmer, create a V shape. Kawajiri used the teal shade from the Noble Spirits collection by The New Black. Repeat this step and apply a second coat.

STEP 5: Line the V with the Kiss Brush-On Nail Art Paint Polish in Gold Glitter.

STEP 6: Create a thick French tip with a dark, charcoal grey. Kawajiri suggests Snake it Up by Essie, which has a subtle shimmer.

STEP 7: Finish with a topcoat like Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat.
