City of Hope, one of the country's leading research and treatment centers for cancer, diabetes and other life threatening conditions, has announced that Eva Graham, founder of Nioxin, will receive its 2010 Spirit of Life Award.

Each year, City of Hope recognizes a member of the professional salon industry for his or her business accomplishments as well as community and philanthropic achievements.

In 1987, Graham was inspired by those, including herself, who were dealing with fine and thinning hair. The huge number of people facing hair loss causes that ranged from hereditary conditions to medical treatments made Graham realize the importance of restoring beauty and confidence by giving hair a fuller and healthier appearance. She parlayed her knowledge of the skin care industry into products that would work in a similar fashion on hair. Her revolutionary approach treated the scalp as an extension of the skin on the face and her product line included cleansers, exfoliants and anti-aging ingredients that worked on the scalp like skin care products worked on the face.

Graham expanded the company into a global leader in the thinning hair field, one of the industry's fastest growing segments. In 2009 Nioxin was purchased by P&G Professional.

Graham and her son Brian Graham, CEO of Nioxin and chair of the 2010 Spirit of Life committee, were recently joined by other Spirit of Life recipients for a tour of City of Hope and a chance to meet the medical staffers who conduct research and provide patient treatment.

"It was inspiring to see the collaboration between researchers, physicians and nurses as they care for the emotional, spiritual and physical side of patients and their families." Says Graham. "That unwavering commitment has propelled City of Hope to its position as a leader in cancer research and care. I am honored to be recognized by the organization and proud to support its mission to bring new therapies and new hope to patients facing serious diseases."

According to Csynthia Savage, senior director of development for City of Hope. "The salon industry in a great champion in the fight against cancer, especially at City of Hope and we are pleased to honor one of its leaders, Eva Graham."

Graham will be recognized at the Spirit of Life Gala, which will be held July 19 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas during Cosmoprof North America.

The City of Hope's National Professional Salon Industry Council is comprised of industry executives, manufacturers, distributors, salon professionals and other industry colleagues who work to increase support for City of Hope. In its 20-year history, the Council has raised close to $13 million and honored more than 20 industry leaders.
