His natural-level-6 client wanted to achieve a brighter look for summer.
HOW-TO COLOR:
STEP 1: For his client's highlights, Heidenwith began by heavily applying WellaMulti-Blonde in foils around her face, following her hairline. He then continued through the rest of her head with sliced highlights.
STEP 2: In between the foils, Heidenwith tipped out the ends of every other section that were left out. "On this hair, I teased the hair up from mid shaft to her root, I highlighted and foiled the hair from midshaft to her ends," he says. "I let her process until it was pale pale yellow."
STEP 3: Shampoo and rinse.
STEP 4: Mix equal parts Wella Color Touch 9/0 and 10/81, and just a drop of 9/03. This formula was applied in three steps for three different processes.
STEP 4a: First, avoiding her hairline, apply at the roots. Process five minutes.
STEP 4b: While processing, add Olaplex to her ends. "After she had finished her first process, I combed a little to blend," he says. "This processed for another five minutes, then I combed again."
STEP 4c: Lastly, apply the formula to her hairline, softly comb to blend. Process five minutes (the total processing time is 15 minutes).
STEP 5: Rinse and towel dry.
STEP 6: To tone, mix Wella Color Touch 10/81 and a drop of Koleston Perfect /88 "pearl" glaze. Apply from roots to ends on entire head. Let process until perfect ash is achieved, approximately 10 minutes.
HOW-TO STYLE:
"Throughout the coloring process, I used a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, to ensure her hair stayed soft," Heidenwith says. "Before blowing the hair dry, I applied a dime-sized amount repair serum, to protect her hair. I also applied a generous amount of volumizing mousse from root to ends.
"When her hair was dry, I curled the majority of her hair with a 1.25" curling iron, alternating direction with each curl. The top layer of her hair was saved for last, and was curled away from her face. I left out the last inch of her hair in every curl, for a more undone look."
To finish Heidenwith used a generous amount of texture spray and tossled her hair, then working in a small amount of a medium hold defining cream in his hands and applied it through the ends for added texture.
