Rodrick Samuels on The Silent Work, Modern Beauty Education and Why Empathy Wins
MODERN SALON sat down with Samuels to discuss the book, beauty education, mentorship and the habits that help beauty professionals thrive.
Facebook has updated yet again! Social media expert, Kelly Ehlers, explains what Facebook Nearby means for your salon's marketing.
If you’re a local salon there’s no doubt that you rely on word-of-mouth recommendations to grow your client base. Today, “social endorsement” is the way clients share their experiences, studies have even found that people are more likely to visit your salon if their friends recommend it...and now, Facebook has made that process just 'that' much easier.

With the announcement of Facebook Nearby for the mobile app, users can see which friends have checked in at a particular place, and allow users to discover places 'nearby' based on friend recommendations. Potential clients can even explore by category, then connect with your business, LIKE your page or rate the place via a five-star system. Pretty cool, huh?
With over half of the visitors to Facebook Pages visiting from a mobile device, this new functionality is bound to change the way your social strategy is looked at. If you have a Business Page on Facebook – with a location (Note, there’s a difference! Email me and I’ll help you out), your business now has another way to be discovered by Facebook’s 600 million mobile customers.
Here’s how it works: When you look for a place, the results that appear in the “Nearby” list will be based on friends' recommendations, ratings, check-ins, and likes.
Because your salon has a physical location here’s what you need to do to ensure you are discoverable:
Update your basic information, including your address, salon hours, phone number, and details about your salon in the About section
Update your category to make sure you appear when people are looking for your salon
Encourage your consumers to like, check into, rate, and recommend your salon to their network

Nearby is available on the Facebook app for both iOS and Android. For more information, connect with us on our Style Sync Facebook page, where we share all of the latest social media tips and tricks! Click here. (link to www.Facebook.com/StyleSync).
