THE EVENT: Goldwell Color Zoom 2013, Los Angeles, California.
THE DETAILS: More than 3500 salon professionals, friends and family came to the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles, California to participate in the finals of the annual Color Zoom competition. The trend for 2013, "Beautify", resulted in 70 competitors from 28 countries to participate and be judged in a photo and live competition in any of the three categories: New Talent (less than 5 years of experience), Creative (5 years or more experience) and Partner (a platform artist or educator for Goldwell). The impressive panel of international judges included Modern's own Beauty and Fashion Director, Maggie Mulhern.
AND THE WINNERS ARE: The winners represented an eclectic selection of artists from around the world, with Derrick Zeno from Reno, Nevada, bringing home the GOLD in the prestigious Partner Category for the first time to the United States. New Talent: Gold: Kuku Soh, Taiwan; Silver: Jordi Schonwetter, Canada; Bronze: Alla Surkova, Russia. Creative: Gold: Rutam Mirosav, Russia; Silver, Mieko Komura, Japan' Bronze: Heidi Helena vd Berg, South Africa. Partner: Gold: Derrick Zeno; Silver, Jerry Zhang, China; Francis Kok, The Netherlands.
REALLUSION LAUNCHED: The "Reallusion" Trend for 2014 was launched on stage before the results were announced. This new collection was created by the Global Color Zoom 2014 Creative Team comprised of three 2013 International Color Zoom Challenge Winners—Eason Chen (Taiwan), Chief Lin (Taiwan), and Hagen Krüger (Germany)—as well as members of the Color Zoom Master Team, featuring Lisa Whiteman (UK), Timothy Switzer (Canada), and Mario Krankl (Austria).The Reallusion Collection highlights "artificial reality" that utilizes strong triangular shapes call "Prisms" to achieve an element of optical illusion. The techniques suit a wide spectrum of tastes, from daring to classic.
