HALO, the non-profit designed to aid homeless and at-risk youths around the world, held an event yesterday in New York City with the goal to raise awareness and build funds to help the recipients start new-lives and to achieve success.
Held at Gramercy Tavern, MoroccanoilCo-Founder Carmen Tal joined Film Director and Actress Bryce Dallas Howard, Veronica Beard Co-founders Veronica M. Beard and Veronica S. Beard and HALO Founder Rebecca Welsh for a discussion focused on HALO’s efforts. Having all previously use their voices and own brands for the organization, the panel focused on each of these four female entrepreneurs’ dedication to helping HALO grow to positively impact more people around the world.

Moderated by Jill Wagner, key topics discussed included women doing remarkable work in the prosocial space, the power of empathy, finding time to give back and committing to young children to help them learn and grow knowing they’re the future of our world.
The highlight of the event was the introduction and poetry reading by HALO beneficiary Marjai. The now college student (on a full ride scholarship at a top university!) gave her first-hand experience of how joining HALO, when she was an in-shelter 10-year-old, provided her the resources to defy those odds, escape homelessness and ultimately end up a success.
When asked how the salon industry could best get on board, Moroccanoil’s Tal said “There is so much work to be done out there. We need to just act - just do it – take action. I’ve heard of salon owners who go to jails and volunteer their time. Or go to hospitals - just a little something to change lives.” Added Howard, “It’s about sharing your time, talent and treasure. Can I volunteer my time, can I volunteer my skill or can I somehow secure funds or even give my own funds? It’s not about giving back, it’s your civic duty.”
