Emma Watson made a splash last week when she debuted her new Mia Farrow-like crop. It was a drastic change for the Harry Potter actress, who had kept her locks long for years to play Hermione in the eight films. She's not the only one who's been to the salon recently, though. Naomi Watts also showed off a new, shorter blunt cut at the Salt premiere, and Scarlett Johansson modeled a short, choppy bob at Comic Con. Here's some tips from the stylists who created the looks on how to get them right.

Short-Naomi
Stylist Robert Vetica created Watts' shorter, blunt bob with layered, side-swept bangs, for a look that referenced 60s British pop and Studio 54. "It was quite a change for Naomi. I cut 2 inches off, kept her hair blunt and collarbone length, and created bangs that swooped to the side," says Vetica. "The length is a bit longer in front and slightly higher in back. The bangs were first cut long and blunt, then razored and texturized to about the bridge of the nose so they looked lighter around the face and were
easily swept to the side. The look had to accent her gorgeous blonde color, have lots of shine and movement and look really healthy and strong."

1. Start with a light conditioner. Vetica likes Moroccanoil Light, especially for clients with fine hair since the strands can't handle too much conditioner.
2. Blow dry hair and shape it.
3. Finish with Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray and Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to flyaways at bay. Add a couple of quick mists from six inches away, then run a comb through hair right away to loosen the look, but keep the hold.

Shorter-Scarlett
Oribe was the stylist responsible for transforming Johansson's long locks into a jagged, mid-length bob. "It's very modern…cut in a really jagged line at the bottom," says Oribe. "It's a combination of Brigitte Bardot in the front and ‘90s-style Christy Turlington at the bottom."

Here's how to recreate it, according to Oribe:
1. Let natural movement help air-dry the hair. You can dry hair upside-down, but don't touch it with a blowdryer.
2. Create some wave. If your client has naturally wavy texture, work with it…or for straighter hair like Scarlett's, rely on a texturizing product, like Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, for help.
3. Though the cut is versatile and can be worn straight, polished into a retro style or swept into an updo, Scarlett opted for more curl. You can use a curling iron on the mid-shaft of your hair, leaving the ends out. The key is to keep some degree of straightness, but add enough movement to make the style fresh and modern for summer.

Watson's cut was the most dramatic of the three styles, but stylist Rodney Cutler who did the snipping, can't say much about it. Protecting his client/stylist relationship, he says, according to an brief interview he did with Modern's Maggie Mulhern.

Watson, though, had plenty to say, telling Entertainment Weekly: "I missed all that experimentation that most teenagers go through. I've wanted to do this since I was about 16, so as soon as I had the chance I was like, ‘Right. This is it.' It was weird. My hairdresser was like, ‘When are you going to freak out?' Most people cry or go into shock,' but I was very calm. I knew it was the right thing. I went to the salon alone and I left alone. I knew everyone was going to have an opinion, and I couldn't deal with it. I have to get myself into a good place to deal with people saying things like, ‘It's terrible! She looks like a boy!'"

She shouldn't have worried; most of the stylists commenting on Modern's Facebook page said how much they like the style!
