2013 Bridal Trends

Cosmetologists Chicago member and owner of MAREK Bridal, Marek Hartwig, released his bridal hair trends for the 2013 season. In addition to his bridal work, Marek is an Artistic Director at Frank Gironda Salon & Day Spa in Wheaton, IL.

In Hartwig’s 2013 Bridal Trends collection, styles and shapes are updated with modern textures. According to Hartwig, texture can be achieved through many different facets, a rough blow-out, sets, curl iron or even air-drying to infuse the brides natural texture into her look.

Hartwig says these two bridal looks are the perfect bridge for late Winter into early Spring… ‘the forgotten season.’  “Winter has a strong feeling of structure with a sense of whimsy while Spring breathes light and airy,” says Hartwig. In this collection the two seasons are synced by incorporating the feelings of each season into two complete looks.

MODERN GLAMOUR: This look is inspired by a high fashion concept that is dramatic and formal. It exemplifies the boldness of formal structured hair and the lightness of airy, tousled hair. Though the look is securely fastened and finished, it gives a feeling of softness that does not have the look of being too "done". The “froth” of this look is the bun, an airy confection that can be placed anywhere on the bride’s head, as long as there is balance. The natural texture of the bun against the refined fabric of a structured bridal gown is a glorious contradiction that gives a bride the power of glamour along with a revelation of modern elegance.

SILVER SCREEN ROMANCE: Influenced by the sensual and vulnerable look of screen goddesses Jean Harlow and Norma Shearer, this look is all about texture. A burst of soft texture evokes a feeling of romance and cherub like glamour that is perfectly offset by a heavy, embellished headband to give the uninhabited bride a look of refinement. By utilizing texture, hair can be morphed into a plethora of different shapes. The lightness of a tulle bridal gown dictates the need for lightness in the brides’ hair while always erring on the side of caution to not make this look too costume. This look works best on lightened hair with numerous hues of different blondes. Always keeping depth at the base to add the proper dimension and drama.
