TRANSFORMATION: Going Chrome

Cassandra McGlaughlin of Platinum Salon in Tampa, Florida, sent the details for this gorgeous transformation we found on her Instagram page: @cassandraplatinum.

Here she shares the HOW TO in her own words:

"This guest came in with previously colored ombré, level 5 warm base color on the top and level 8 lightened ends. I knew to get to the gray/silver tone she wanted I needed to break up the dark color, tone it to a cooler shade and get some very light (level 10 or above) pieces in her hair."

  1. "I did a super heavy full foil in very small woven sections. This allowed me to get a high percentage of the hair lighter while still preserving the depth at the root. I used Paul Mitchell SynchroLift and 20 vol for the highlights and 6a5n PM Shines at the root to cool off her base color."
  2. "Then, I hand painted all her ends that were outside the foils with SynchroLift and 30 vol. I processed the light pieces until they reached a level 10."
  3. "I rinsed and shampooed the hair with Paul Mitchell Post Color Shampoo. I toned with Paul Mitchell the color 10a, 3 Blue Color Shots. I let the hair process for 10 minutes."
  4. "I rinsed and shampooed again, and applied a second toner of PM Shines 9a9v (2:1) with 3 blue Color Shots and one Violet to achieve the final overall gray tone."
  5. "Finally, I shampooed and conditioned with Marula Rare Oil Replenishing Shampoo and Conditioner and then styled with the Paul Mitchell Express Ion Curl Xl."
