1. Begin with the color at the base. Using a bowl
and brush, apply from the scalp to 3 inches
out. Mix one part Davines 11S with two parts
40-volume developer. Process for 30 minutes.
2. Blend one part Davines 10A with two parts
40-volume developer. Work though along the
lengths to the ends.
3. Massage color to saturate. Process for additional
15 minutes. Shampoo.
5. Then draw through to the ends.
6. Process for 20 minutes then rinse. Do not
shampoo, but condition the hair.
7. Begin the cut in the back. Bring down all the hair
from below the occipital. Cut straight across to
the desired length.
8. To create long layers, pull out vertical sections
and elevate. Cut to follow the shape of the head.
Blend all around the head.
4. Apply the Finest Pigment Pearl as a gloss. Apply
first to the base.

Model Deborah arrived to the studio with a heavy dose of home color on natural Level 6. “These ends have turned ashy,” says Fortier, “and not surprisingly the roots are brassy.” To create long layers, vertical sections were pulled out and elevated, while the blunt, heavy fringe adds interest.
