HOW TO: Cinderella Pumpkin

Joi Rooks, owner of fresche salon, Atlanta, GA, is inspired by Cinderella Pumpkins for the shape, texture and color, which has unique placement in that it is all within the interior; blood orange and cranberry. "I look for inspiration during show season or a photo shoot, everywhere except in actual hair," she says. "Being inspired by shapes, texture, design and color can be found in so many places in life…knowing how and when to translate that into hair is the challenge.”

Here she offers the HOW TO for this Cinderella Pumkin design:

Color

Natural dark brown hair was accented with splices that popped from inside to expose color when the design was created.

Step 1: Create V shaped panels on sides and back, keeping it below the round of the head and then pre-lightened to about a level 8 with Goldwell Oxycur Platin lightening powder and 30 volume to pre lighten.

Step 2: Goldwell Topchic 7 OO and 10 volume was used for the Blood Orange and 6 RV 6 RR and 10 volume for the Cranberry.

Step 3: Process, shampoo and apply Elumen KK@all and RR@all at the basin.

Style

  • Create texture by micro crimping with KMS FREE SHAPE 2 in 1 styling + finishing spray.
  • Brush out each panel and roll up and pin sections to create shape of Cinderella Pumpkin - by lifting/rolling the hair up, the beautiful color is exposed.
