Mark Hayes Presentation on the Runway.

Yesterday at America’s Beauty Show was what I would like to call, Runway Day. To kickoff the hair styles for the day, Beth Minardi held an exclusive, ticketed color class. “I’ve seen good color, bad color, and color that’s not so right,” she says. “I think that when you’re a colorist your main job is to make your client’s color life better.” During her show, Minardi showed the audience how to achieve an American Bailage, or ombre color (Minardi likes to call it ‘Lit From Within’). The technique concentrates on brightening up the ends placing foils in a zig-zag pattern up the hair. The foil she used was 7” by 14” (found on universalbeauty.com) and folds vertically rather than horizontally on the head. “Think of yourself as a painter. You paint on a living canvas…they are living, breathing and have an opinion,” she says. While Minardi was showing the technique she introduced her new Minardi Luxury line of products.

Another presentation I caught mid-day was Mark Hayes and the Sassoon Creative Team presented by Wella Professionals. Models strutted hair styles found in the “Tribe Collection” and “Hot Rod Collection” (which evokes 50s’ Americana). Hayes and his team members showed the audience how to create a disconnected ‘Box Bob’ with a delicate feel ing in the front and a heavy feel ing in the back of the head.  “Sassoon is now moving away from the original strong line and is going just a bit softer,” says Hayes. “All of our cuts are based upon lines, graduation and layering.”

To close the Runway yesterday was Goldwell’s magnificent presentation of their 2012 FasciNATURE collection which reflects the brilliant colors and endless shapes found throughout nature in plants, leaves, flowers and the surreal beauty of the undersea world. John Simpson and Dimitrios Tsumious demonstrated a “Butterfly Technique” on their models in which they worked in three different sections (or “wings”) on the head. “FasciNATURE is all about creating organic structures with the hair,” says Simpson. “Personalize the style to your liking.”

Other presentations on the Runway included Angelo Seminara presented by Davines, Nick Arrojo, Farouk Systems featuring Rocky Vitelli, Leonel Rodriguesz with special guest Miss Universe Leila Lopes of Angola, Wayne Grund presented by Surface and International Trend Vision presented by Wella Professionals featuring Paul Marallah and Omar Antonio, Sonya and Christopher Dove.

Another highlight of the day was Miss Universe's appearance at the MODERN SALON booth (#299). It was a hit! Everyone wanted to get their autograph with her. Social Media and Video Editor Alison Shipley also interviewed her for MODERN SALON TV! You’ll see her soon in an upcoming episode.

Stay tuned to a feature about Day Three at America’s Beauty Show where we will be highlighting the demos at MODERN SALON’s booth, the CND/Shellac Runway Presentation and some new and interesting products found around the show floor this year! If you’re at the show make sure you stop by our booth #299 or the Texture pavilion #233 for a ton of curly haired education!

Also, stay tuned for more photos!!
