The talented professionals and students at Bellus Academy, the esteemed beauty and wellness education institution headquartered in San Diego, successfully executed Fashion Week San Diego’s “The Art & Beauty Behind Fashion” in late September at the Broadway Pier in San Diego.

The evening featured three presentations which showcased the beauty industry’s critical place within fashion. The Bellus Academy hosted event attracted over 500 beauty and fashion enthusiasts, and Bellus Academy’s notable reputation allowed the academy to garner the coveted spot as presenter for the evening.

“Bellus Academy’s invitation to provide hair and beauty for Fashion Week San Diego during our very own night was an honor. We truly believe that beauty completes all fashion designs and that the industry plays an integral role in presenting new trends. Our profession could not succeed without solid education, which is the foundation of Bellus for both the professionals and students we mentor,” said Lynelle Lynch, Bellus Academy president. “With our academy’s strong focus on experiential learning and our commitment to new innovations, we were able to provide our students with a creative outlet to showcase their growing, top-notch talent.”

The first segment featured Bellus Academy students from all three San Diego County campuses as they presented their interpretations of beauty within three fashion themes: Prêt a’ Porter, Ah Couture and Men’s Fashion. Students demonstrated their talents in hair, make-up artistry and nail design, as they transformed the models into works of art.

The second segment featured five Bellus Academy finalists of the academy’s exclusive S.T.A.R. semi-annual competition sponsored by NickEducation. S.T.A.R. (Shape, Technique, Action and Results) is the advanced curriculum that Bellus Academy educators developed to provide cutting edge online education to its cosmetology students. Students transformed FWSD models with innovative hair styling, nail and makeup artistry to deliver a preview of spring and summer 2015 Trends on the runway, tying the fashion together with their one-of-a-kind looks.

The final segment featured Bellus’ professional team presenting their interpretations of beauty for Spring 2015. Bellus Artistic Director, Diego Raviglione and Academy and Color Director, Carrera Bailey, along with Makeup Director, Kristina Monique Cortez, lead the professional team.

“I created this signature event to start Fashion Week San Diego because beauty is so critical to fashion,” said Allison Andrews, founder of Fashion Week San Diego. “This night pays tribute to the beauty and artists that make our looks complete on the runway. They are a huge and appreciated part of Fashion Week San Diego and any fashion week around the world.”
