Nicole Boncutter (@nikki_bbs) of Benjamin Beau Salon, Austin, Texas, has been on a color journey with client Alyssa James to create a powerful pixie. Husband Beau Boncutter joined in to design the shape. This look took 5 hours.

Here Nicole offers the how to:

Step 1: Soap Cap or Color Balance (equal parts lightener, developer and shampoo) the hair to remove any previous deposited color from her hair to achieve desired vibrancy.

Step 2: Shampoo and dry hair. Apply Paul Mitchell The Color: 2 parts 7OR, 1 part 6RR, 1 part 6RO 20 volume scalp to ends. ("This color will be used for the retouch on next visit. It is a permanent color that lifts her natural hair to a bright orange color. Applying this color continuously to what is already red/orange will actually start to cause the ends of her hair to turn a brownish color and lose vibrancy.")

Step 3: Shampoo, towel dry and apply 3 parts Orange, 1 part Red Pravana mixed with conditioner at the bowl. Comb through to guarantee even saturation. Place a cap on her and place her under heat for 15 minutes, cool for 5. "This acts as an overlay and intensifying effect for the color."

TIPS TO MAINTAIN VIBRANT COLOR:

"Clients interested in having such vibrant colors will need to know the investment of either coming in every two weeks for something we call an 'Ink Manicure' (the temporary color mixed with conditioner under heat) or with particular guests that we can trust to touch-up at home we offer to add the color to a bottle of our favorite color-safe conditioner and add an additional fee for the freedom of them touching up the vibrancy as often as they'd like until they need their new-growth touched up!! I also advise these clients invest in a great color-safe shampoo but wash as infrequently as possible."
