Alyssa Springer (@lyssa_loop), a hairstylist at Fierro Hair (@fierrohair), San Luis Obispo, California, says "The salon where I work is great. Everything that I do in the hair world would not be possible without the people that I work with. Our salon dynamic is irreplaceable and made possible by the owner Carlos Sosa."

When we found this makeover on her Instagram page (thank you for tagging #MODERNSALON by the way), we had to know more.

Here she shares for this transformation that took approximately 5 hours:

"She came to me with extremely damaged hair, bond extensions and a dream of chocolate brown locks. After her consultation she made an appointment to have her extensions removed. Shortly after, she came back to see me to start this amazing process." Springer points out the hair was extremely porous and that the consultation was key to managing expectations.

STEP 1: Cut the hair into a shorter version of a LOB. "This was great because I was removing a large portion of the damage."

STEP 2: "Attack" the new growth. Apply (and fully saturate) with Wella Koleston Perfect 5/0 and 20 volume developer.

STEP 3: Fill the ends with 7/75 Koleston Perfect and 20 volume developer. Process to desired lift and then rinse and rough dry.

STEP 4: Apply a "mid-light" of Koleston Perfect 20g 4/75 5g 5/4 with 20 volume developer. Apply as a partial foil highlight and process. "The reason I felt I needed to use permanent is that her hair porosity was so bad that I was afraid a demi-permanent dye would not hold. The mid-light was a success!"

STEP 5: Apply a demi-permanent of Colortouch 10g 6/0 30g 7/0 with 6 volume Colortouch developer. After processing, shampoo and condition used Wella Post Treat to seal that cuticle.

"After that we finished with a beautiful haircut and some loose curls. I then booked her an appointment three weeks later to have another gloss and conditioning treatment. She was so happy with the outcome and I was too!"
