"This was a first time client with hair that had been colored and bleached for many years, about 2 cm of natural root color that was between an 8 and 7," says Malin Holm (@moy.hairsalon) of Moy.Hair Salon, Vaasa, Finland. "We were aiming for a more natural look, cool blonde and not having to keep coloring the outgrowth every 6th week."

Holm shares the how to create this rooty ashy sombre:

STEP 1: Begin by making thin foil- highlights using Wella Blondor bleaching powder, 4% + Magma 89 ("for a cooler blonde tone.") Start in the front, right under the mid parting, working down to right above the ears. "I also added a few highlights in the back of her head to make the base color blend in softer.")

STEP 2: After applying the foils, start to work base color in to the roots with Wella Illumina Color 7/81+ 8/69+ 7 ( 2/4+ 1/4+1/4) and 4% developer, ("a tone very close to her natural hair color.") Apply about 5 cm and then continue to blend in with a gloss of Illumina 10/36 + a hint of 9/60 with 1,9% developer, adding Wella SP Hydrate conditioner. Equal parts.( 1+1+1).

STEP 3: Place the client under the Climazon for 15 minutes. Rinse and shampoo. Finish with Davines styling products.
