The event: Oribe Atelier Chicago on May 23, 2016, at Moonlight Studios.
The details: Members of Oribe's creative team presented runway-inspired, fashion-forward cuts, colors and styles to a select group of stylists in Chicago. Goldwell partnered with the brand to detail color trends, and Oribe team members demoed looks and translated trending styles in fashion before a hands-on portion.
Educators included James Pecis, Oribe global ambassador; Kien Hoang, Oribe director of training and content; Ronnie Stam, Oribe creative director; Coby Alcantar, Oribe educator; and Christian Ceja-Compin, Oribe educator.
The styles: Pecis present the first demo, a freehand cut for curly hair. He pointed out that recently, casting for fashion shows has shifted to looking for models with unique, individual looks.
"Girls are being cast for shows now because they have a really tight curl pattern," Pecis said. "Hairdressers have to be able to approach all types of textures and be well-educated and at the top of their game."
Ceja-Compin followed with a dramatic four-strand rope braid with wefts added, Alcantar demoed edgy, piecey bangs and Hoang flexed his hair-molding and -sculpting muscles with a faux bob with glossy finger waves at the front.
For color, Goldwell cited multifaceted platinum blonde, cool raven brunette and rose-copper as hot colors for the season.
Pecis and Alcantar returned to the stage to create the look attendees would recreate after a lunch break—an updo with roots in classic hairdressing and a bit of a '40s retro vibe.
