essie's new GEL line arrives hand-in-hand (pun intended) with educator Gino Trunzo.
Trunzo grew up in a salon-and-spa family, and he owned Rescue Hand and Foot Spa in Los Angeles. He is leading essie's relatively new education team, which comprises 20 people and is growing, Trunzo says.
essie's GEL line is focused on maintaining the health of a client's natural nail, according to Trunzo. He says the hydrolyzed keratin-infused base coat has the thinnest viscosity on the market and applies more like a polish than a gel, but it is key in creating a barrier between the natural nail and the GEL.
There are currently 36 GEL colors available to nail professionals only, and more are coming out in the near future, says Trunzo. He shared a video with MODERN of the ease of taking the GEL off (see below); he says he was actually a little confused when he went to remove the GEL from the second nail, because the GEL looked like it was still intact. He tried to blow some air on it, and it flew off.
Trunzo says that essie worked on perfecting a formula that would not require any scraping or buffing of the GEL or of the nail to remove the color.
Almost all of the GEL colors correspond with a classic Essie shade. For instance, Smokin' Hot in the polish line is Super Good in the GEL line; Ballet Slippers in the polish is Dance Class in GEL. A fun game is trying to see if you can figure out what classic polish shades correspond with the GEL shades:
-Blizzard
-Deep Pockets
-Puffer Up
-Life Partner
-Amusing Bouche
