Amy shows an example of a correction she did over the last year. Her client came in with a very unfortunate color mishap that left her hair spotty, inconsistent and irreparably damaged and broken beyond repair.

As many guests have learned the hard way, going to a stylist that lacks proper education who charges a cheap price can yield disastrous results. Whether it was poor communication, a rushed application, an inexperienced stylist, or unrealistic expectations, walking out in tears is definitely NOT what anyone wanted or expected.

Last year, Colorado stylist and Artist Connective member Amy Baugh (@hairbyamybee) says a guest came in to see her after they made that mistake.

“My client came in with a very unfortunate color mishap that left her hair spotty, inconsistent and irreparably damaged and broken beyond repair,” Baugh says. “On top of the damage, her hair was already naturally thin and fine, which made it too fragile to correct all at once.”

Baugh says the first and most important step in a color correction is making sure the hair is healthy enough to withstand whatever it is you’re wanting to do, and then making sure you’re taking the proper steps at home to ensure it stays that way.

During the first session, Amy was able to break up the lines and get her clients hair looking and feeling much better, but it took a full year to finally get her to the place she is now. Healthy hair should always be made the priority, because as Baugh says, "hair is never pretty if it’s on the floor."

Following a customized hair care routine is important for everyone, but absolutely vital for those guests who have had really unfortunate and irreparable damage done to their hair.

“Consistently using reparative products such as bond builders and masks, leave-ins, heat protectants and even a hair heath supplement that promotes healthy hair growth from within, such as Viviscal Pro, is a must,” she says.

Viviscal Pro is suitable for anyone wanting to grow their hair longer, thicker, stronger, faster OR if they have hair loss or thinning from post partem, post menopause, regularaging process, over styling, etc, but must be recommended and retailed to clients with a stylist's expertise. Viviscal Pro contains AminoMar marine complex that supplies vital nutrients needed to help maintain normal, healthy hair growth.

Viviscal Pro is taken daily, twice a day for a minimum of 3-6 months. Over this time, take the opportunity to track hair growth through photos at these benchmarks:

  • Stage 1 (up to month 2): Users may notice that their nails are stronger and growing faster after3 4 weeks).
  • Stage 2 (months 2 and 3): Viviscal Pro strengthens and promotes the growth of existing hair.
  • Stage 3 (months 4 and 5): The effects might present themselves in reduced hair loss and in overallhair health improvement of fuller and thicker looking hair. These hairs may be thin or wispy atfirst, like baby hair. Users may notice fine baby hairs growing, initially these may look like brokenhairs, they are not; they are new growth.
  • Stage 4 (month 6 and ongoing): The hair becomes stronger, thicker, healthier and more vibrant.

With these tips, plus Baugh’s expertise, her guest has been on a journey back to healthy, beautiful hair.

For other guests who have suffered the same hair mishaps, Baugh says: “Patience is key, trust your stylist if she says your hair can’t handle something! Follow your customized hair care instructions, and the magic will happen before you know it!”

It’s seriously the most awful, pit in your stomach feeling when you go to a salon, expecting to walk out at the end of your appointment feeling like a celebrity, but instead you walk out desperately searching for a hat. 😭 Whether it was poor communication, a rushed application, an inexperienced stylist, or unrealistic expectations....walking out in tears is definitely NOT what anyone wanted or expected.⁣ ⁣ Now the question is.....where do you go from here? Depending on the situation, sometimes we luck out and it’s an easy enough fix.
