Some lip-plumping cosmetics have earned a swelling reputation for causing stinging and discomfort to users’ puckers. But just because you might not have a place for cosmetics—or injectible cosmetic treatments—in your spa, you could still satisfy clients’ desire for fuller lips with some alternative products.

For example, Aveda (www.aveda.com) recently launched a collection of three new Nourish-Mint lip treatments infused with botanical emollients that are designed to smooth, hydrate and plump lips: Nourish-Mint Sheer Mineral Lip Colors, Nourish-Mint Smoothing Lip Colors and Nourish-Mint Renewing Lip Treatment.

The primary ingredients in the Aveda line are a far cry from the chemically-based treatments most of your clients are likely buying from try-and-buy cosmetics stores. These treatments contain soy, coconut protein and peptide technology to boost skin’s natural collagen production, raspberry wax to create a moisture barrier to protect lips, bilberry, which is high in antioxidants and helps neutralize free-radical damage, and many other organic ingredients. Plus, the pout products smell good enough to eat. They include certified organic essential oils of spearmint, vanilla, star anise, cinnamon and a hint of peppermint.

Another company exploring the organic lip-plumping product category is Juice cosmetics (www.juicebeauty.com). The sweet-smelling balm-based treatments contain lip-plumping amino acids, moisturizing and refining cane sugar and essential fatty acids to fill in lines and soften lips.

Check out some of the organic lip plumping products on the rise and try to persuade your clients to choose them over other artificial treatments. In addition to a new retail opportunity, you might consider adding an “in-house” treatment of your own recipe to your spa menu.
