Getting Ready to Be Ready

We have a new operations director at our studio and she will be instrumental in helping us get ready for 2012. I love being prepared and find most salon owners and stylists are too busy to prepare, which means they do what they have always done and get the same results. I am telling you, in 2012, we are not going to do the same, we are going to do BETTER! The one thing that will insure success is a good plan - remember, you plan for success, failure just happens.

10 Things I've Learned

I started a new Facebook page, because I learned long ago the best way to create success is to start with something successful. Otherwise, when success happens simply because of luck, it is rarely maintained or duplicated (just look at most Lottery winners that end up poor again.) True success can be shared and even duplicated, just look at Starbucks or even martial arts to see some of the many levels of success we can transfer to others and other places. With this in mind, the Facebook page “10 Things I’ve Learned” has started and I would like to share it with you.

Color America Whirlwind Experience

Color America in the Company of Patrick McIvor–NYC, featuring David Adams, Adrienne Rogers, Rodney Cutler and myself, was AMAZING. Attendees were treated to an amazingly special experience and I got to try out some new trick with my iPad. Most stylists just see the end product of a show, so I thought I would give an inside peek at the whirlwind of preparation that goes into prepping for a show.

Ombre/Puddling Coloring Technique

Krista Beahm and Patrick McIvor demonstrate how to do the Ombre/Puddling coloring technique. Note Krista’s unique foil folding technique—neat little triangles to anchor the foil and create chatter among studio guests.

ROCK The PURPLE

May is National Domestic Abuse Awareness Month, and during the first week of May, salon professionals across the country came together through individual events to Break the Silence, Break the Cycle and Save Lives.

You Are the Company You Keep

When Cosmetologists Chicago invited my to become involved with Color America it was important to me to always have the most amazing friends who prove themselves everyday by making our industry and stylists behind the chair better. With artists like Kris Sorbie, Chrystofer Benson, Sue Pemberton, James Edick, John Simpson, Kimberly Kimble, Kelly Cardenas and Jo Blackwell-Preston, so far, Color America in the Company of Patrick McIvor has done just that, and this next time is no exception.
