THE JOURNEY: Blue to Red to Dimensional Blonde

Michael Antonio Baez (@hairxaddict) of Illusions Hair Spa, Union, NJ, has been on quite a journey with his client. "About a year and a half ago my client was a  dimensional level 9 blonde who wanted something different with her hair," says Baez. "We decided to color her hair blue with Pravana blue and green and she loved it for almost a year before we decided to do another change. When we went red, I used Pravana Color Extractor to remove the left over of blue she had left in her hair. I put her under a dryer for 20 minutes. After I removed, I shampooed then did full head babylights concentrating on the front to give her that natural brightness in her hairline. I then colored her whole head with L'Oreal Dia Richesse 4.8 + 6.64 with 9 vol for 25 minutess."

Two months later the client decided she wanted another change and go blonde again. "Now any hairdresser is already shaking his head with the change but I was ready for the challenge!"

Here Baez shares the details for this latest transformation:

STEP 1: Lighten the mid shaft to ends using L'Oreal Infinite Platine with 30 volume, adding Brazilian Bond Builder to the mix. Lift to a level 7/8 ("straight up orange.")

STEP 2: On new growth, apply Alfaparf 6n with 10 volume to achieve a root shadow.

STEP 3: In the mid shaft, apply Alfaparf 1 part of 6.7 with 2 parts of 7.1 with 20 volume to neutralize the orange and red.

STEP 4: On the ends, apply Alfaparf 9.21 with 15 volume "to give it those icey blonde ends." Process for 35 minutes and then rinse and shampoo.

STEP 5: Gloss with L'Oreal Dialight Clear for 15 minutes.
