Make-UNDER Needed For The Pregnant Client

Jamie Boolukos (@hairbyjamieboo) of Shear Intensity Salon, Newburgh, NY, had a client with a complicated hair history looking for a simple solution. "This lovely lady came to me with burnt 'wet noodle' hair. Over the past year or so she had been blonde, then purple and then decided she wanted to be blonde again. She was 9 months pregnant and did not want to go into labor with her hair like that." After the consultation Boolkos decided to make her dark enough to cover the blonde, pink and purple. "Any sort of lifting was not an option. She had level 9 possibly even level 10 on half of her head of highlights, her ends melted off entirely, her mid shaft was dark brown, and the bottom half of her head still had pink and purple tones.  She was perfectly fine with going darker because she understood how damaged her hair was. Now we are a work in progress on making her hair 100% before we do anything else that can damage her."

Given the circumstances, Boolukos decided a nice deposit was all that was necessary. "In doing this I knew some of her blonde wouldn't be as dark, but that's what I wanted to still give her a little dimension. I gave her a heathy haircut where I layered the back of her hair into her broken hair in the midshaft. The color applied was Scruples 6A with DEMI developer."

The process took about 2 hours. "It was so nice doing her hair because she was understanding of her situation. I think so many people want instant gratification but it is our job as hairstylist to educate and be honest with our clients. She had her baby a couple days later."
