Career journey: After venturing out on my own with a home-based spa business at age 23, I soon realized I needed more structure. A friend was a skin therapist for Ulta Beauty and told me how great the benefits were—(when you start adult-ing, you have to think about insurance and your future)—and I already loved shopping at the store. So I applied and started as a stylist in 2013 in Longmont (Store 252), worked my way up through multiple stylist positions, and eventually was promoted to Salon Manager at the same location in 2015.

After having a baby and returning from leave in 2017, I continued as manager until I was invited to apply for the Services District Educator position in 2018 and was promoted. 

Throughout my career with Ulta, I have loved the structure but also the flexibility. Because the store and salon are open seven days a week and long hours, you can really pick your schedule. There is work-life balance and I can make my family a priority. I choose to always have Sundays off, for instance—while others might need or prefer to work that day.

We are one big Ulta family, with all kinds of professionals from different walks of life.

I feel appreciated and supported as well as lifted up through my peers, my partners and my supervisor. I feel I belong here and that is something you can’t get everywhere you go.

For anyone looking for career opportunities and longevity, Ulta Beauty is the place, with the ability to make more money and up to 70 percent in commission. In July, I hit $1,278 in services in one day—the best day I’ve ever had, in one nine-hour shift.

I can see myself being with Ulta Beauty until I retire.
