One of the best things about multi-textured hair is the ease of enhancing or tweaking the natural movement to the desired shape. Trisha Granados @Trishhair, Aquage Master Educator, is comfortable working with all hair types after honing her skills on the salon floor and working back and center stage at hair shows and editorial shoots. She has learned the various techniques needed to adjust the hair to satisfy both the stylist and client alike.

Altering texture has been made easier for Granados now that she has available the four products recently introduced in the Aquage Texturizing Line, all designed to transform any style, adding flexible texture and control for limitless possibilities. All the products contain the Algaeplex Complex, a blend of eight different organic seaweeds and algae designed to heal and add nutrition to the hair. The products are all sulfate-, paraben- and gluten-free.

MODERN asked Granados to share her top five tips on manipulating texture using the new products and some of her favorite tools. Here she shares:

1. DEFINING CURL: To eliminate frizz, define and energize natural curly or wavy textures, apply Aquage Sonic Wave Control Creme on evenly damp hair. Apply in sections, then comb-through for even product distribution. Using a cup-diffuser, blow-style the hair using high heat/low airflow until 100% dry. Pro tip: To re-energize curls and waves on day two, generously spray Aquage SeaExtend Volumizing Mist from roots to ends and again diffuse to set.

2. SOFT WAVES: For softer, controlled waves, apply Aquage Sonic Wave Control Creme over towel dried hair, then comb-through to evenly distribute the product. Blow-style using a paddle brush, gently lifting and smoothing until 100% dry. Next, mist Beyond Body Sealing Spray to thermally protect, add body and a medium-hold control. Last, curl the hair in small sections using the Aquage 1-inch Advanced Digital Flat Iron. Insert the iron at the base, roll the iron upward 180 degrees and glide the iron down through the ends of the hair to achieve a ribboned effect. Soften and break up the curl pattern using Aquage Precision Flexible Wax in pea-sized increments, gently massaging from roots to ends.

3. ELIMINATING FRIZZ: To eliminate static, frizz and fly-aways, apply Aquage Sonic Wave Control Creme on dry hair. Dispense in pea-sized increments, emulsify in between hands and fingers then smooth over unruly areas. If a stronger hold is desired, apply Aquage Precision Flexible Wax on dry hair in the same manner.

4. BEACH WAVES: To get a classic “beach wave” look, apply Aquage Sonic Wave Control Creme to towel dried hair. Dispense in dime-sized increments, emulsify in hands, massage from roots to ends and comb-though. Twist the hair in large chunky sections, alternating directions with each twist (clockwise, counterclockwise, clockwise etc.) Diffuse the twisted sections using high heat/high airflow until 100% dry. Generously layer on Aquage Dry Texture Finishing Spray to break up the twists and create a more organic finish.

5. SMOOTH FINISH: For a smooth, sleek look, apply Aquage Lux Enhancer Blow Dry Cream to evenly damp hair from roots to ends and comb-through in sections for even product distribution. Next, blow-style the hair using a boar bristle round brush. For maximum tension, place the brush on top of the section and gently smooth down the surface until you reach the ends. Roll the brush upward one full rotation to lock in the ends. Using high heat/high airflow and starting at the root area, direct the air concentrator nozzle downward, pointing toward the ends of the hair. Guide the nozzle down the section, working strategically from roots to ends until the section is 80% dry. Next, reposition the brush to the under-side of the section. Pass the blow-dryer smoothly down the section until 100% dry to smooth, polish and bevel the ends. Pro Tip: Place the brush on the top of the section of hair you’re working with to provide a better grip for smoothing the hair.
