The 2014 Grammy Awards were nothing if not the usual balance some seriously glam looks alongside a couple that left us scratching our heads. We sorted through the best and worst of last night's looks for a few that are chic enough for the award show but definitely worth taking notes on for your clients.
HAIR: Beachy Waves
Loose, beachy waves were perfect for Chrissy Teigen, Sara Bareilles and Beyoncé (who had hers wet for her “Drunk in Love” performance and dried after). Teigen and Bareilles toed the casual-versus-polished line with braids, but both pulled it off effortlessly and avoided looking too juvenile with the addition.
Clients with short or longer hair can easily mimic this look — Beyoncé and Teigen do a shorter version while Bareilles sported longer tousled locks with multiple braids.
This style would translate well from red carpet to everyday, and curly-haired women will have an easy time recreating it with a curl-enhancing cream (think Redkin Curvaceous Full Swirl) and a diffuser or by air-drying.
MAKE-UP: Bold, Beautiful Lips
Lips were not to be missed at the 2014 Grammys. The spectrum ranged from bright, tomato reds to dark, eggplant purples, but they were all making major statements. Team red included Miranda Lambert and Madonna, while Beyoncé, Lorde and Katy Perry went for darker hues (Perry’s during her performance of “Dark Horse,” which was fitting).
Although the bold lips were stunning, we also appreciated the more subdued hues that Chrissy Teigen and mom-to-be Ciara wore. They both looked sun-kissed and natural with their light lips and bronzed cheeks.
NAILS: Nail Art’s Last Hurrah
Nail art isn’t quite done just yet, according to Rita Ora. Her fingers were tipped with the likes of Batman and a moustache, and they covered in an assortment of statement-making rings.
On the other side of the nail-art spectrum was Lorde, whose black-dipped fingers during her performance were cause for discussion. The newcomer definitely got our attention!
