EMMYS 2014: Keke Palmer's Sleek Style by Cynthia Alvarez

Actress Keke Pamer was a red carpet beauty at the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday, August 25.  Celebrity hairdresser Cynthia Alvarez decided on a simple yet chic updo to complement her bright blue Rubin Singer gown. From the front, the hair evokes classic styling. From the back the visual is an innovative twist.

STEPS:

STEP ONE: Alvarez washed Palmer's natural hair with Motions Straight Finish Cleanser followed by Motions Straight Finish Leave-In. A small amount of Motions Finish Sealer was applied and then the hair was blown dry with a paddle brush and the Gold ’N Hot Professional Titanium Dryer.

STEP TWO: After the hair was dry, it was straightened with the Gold ’N Hot Rose Gold 1” Straightening Iron, followed by a very small amount of Motions Shine Enhancing Pomade to smooth the edges.

STEP THREE: The hair was then parted into three horizontal sections. Starting with the top section first, Alvarez gathered it into a ponytail using a fabric covered hair tie. Then, using her fingers, she made a hole right above the hair tie. She pulled the ponytail down through the hole and retightened the ponytail by splitting it in two and pulled tightly. She continued using this inverted ponytail (topsy tail) for the other sections, pulling hair from the previous pony into the new one.

STEP FOUR: To create a soft and sleek front and sides, Alvarez sprayed the hair with Motions Light Working Spritz and applied a tiny amount of Motions Shine Enhancing Pomade. She tied the hair down and did not remove until the style was complete. She set the hair into place using the Gold ’N Hot dryer so that the sides and top became perfectly smooth. Once set, she removed the wrap and finished with Motions Hold & Shine Spray before topping off the style with some fancy hair bling pins at the base of each ponytail for an Emmy Award worthy hairdo.
