During this year's Cosmoprof North America (CPNA), at Las Vegas’s Mandalay Bay Convention Center,  Mark Spinks, president of CosmoProf/BSG, was presented the prestigious City of Hope Spirit of Life Award at a gala on Saturday, July 8. A leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases, City of Hope designates someone from the industry each year to honor for outstanding business and philanthropic achievement.

Sara Jones, a former honoree and the General Manager of Joico, acted as hostess for the evening.  One of Spink's sons, Jack Spinks, presented the award to his father.

"We're all so incredibly proud of you, we love you and I'm honored to present this award to you tonite," he said. "I'm so glad everyone is able to see in you what we see everyday."

Spinks and his CosmoProf/BSG family were actively fundraising for the past year, and during the dinner, guests were able make a texted donation to City of Hope, contributing to "The Miracle of Science with Soul."

"When I think of City of Hope, I think of research and patient care," Mark Spinks said. "What they're doing is not just trying to understand these diseases but to find a cure for them. The researchers and doctors always spoke about 'when' not 'if' and you leave confident they're going to do it.  If we all take away one thing, it would be that when we have the chance to give back we should all take that opportunity. There's no better cause to get behind."
