Powerful Technology

Every year, our technology issue introduces you to the latest software management features, tech tools and apps through our annual Technology Guide, but we also introduce you to salon owners who have figured out how to harness an array of technology to streamline their operations and drive their business to new growth.

This year, you'll meet Patty Martin and Josh Scheidel, the married couple behind the successful Love & Mercy Salon in Boston and their hard-working manager Rosie Law-Amirault.

By leveraging Rosy Salon Software and the software's integrated payment processing system RosyPay, the trio is gradually going deskless, giving more control of appointment booking to their team, improving the client experience, while also holding clients accountable for no-shows. Through Rosy's integrated partners Tippy, Vish, SalonInteractive and Salon Ninja, they're also eliminating color waste and accuarately capturing color charges, automating their tip processes, and ramping up their marketing. See how technology is keeping this savvy salon ahead in the rapidly changing times in our story starting on page 22.

Beautiful Technology

While we tend to think of the way technology makes our lives more efficient, it also has the ability to make it more gorgeous. Last year, MODERN SALON and SALON TODAY began experimenting with Ceros, a content management system that our designers could use to animate text, embed audio and create interactivity in our online stories.

This summer we determined Ceros was the perfect platform to announce our 2023 SALONS OF THE YEAR—the 21 honorees in our interior-design competition. Even though I stole a few pages in this issue to showcase the top winners (starting on page 24) the experience is much better on salontoday.com.

Many of our finalists responded to our request for video tours, so you can study more of thei interior images and experience their design more fully through video. You also have the ability to steer the story, choosing to check out the winners, explore our story on the latest in salon stations or hear how owners are designing their salons with the help from our sponsor Minerva Beauty.

Here are some of my favorite moments:

  • When David Wagner leads us up the gallery-styled staircase at JUUT Salonspa around the 52-foot sculpture and you see ‘The Treehouse,” which the staff has nicknamed the salon floor.
  • When Kristin Collins rings the buzzer for a glass of champagne and it magically appears at her 1920s-styled 6th and Big Beauty Bar Co.—make sure to watch the video to the end to see the flappers dancing!
  • The beautiful quad stations in both J. Michaels and Design 1 Salon Spa which bring a communal vibe into the space.
  • The cool, circular mirrors and apothecary cabinet at a.salon.
  • When Casey London Keeter shows us her Monarch butterfly wall in the styling room and her signature-orange barn doors to her shampoo lounge at Salon CLK.
  • The green mural, bark-covered accent waslls andpainted Carrara-marble floor at Gordon Salon that speaks of Pam and Tony Gordon’s commitment to the environment.
  • The sweet station on the sun porch at Elevate Salon + Spa.
  • When Leanna Villanueva shows us the customized mural, angel wings and other selfie stations at Halo Salon Aesthetics and Boutique.
  • The wooden archway that Kendyll Lacko’s grandfather built and installed in her Kalon Hair Salon.
  • The cool branding murals painted on the brick walls at Salon 124.
  • Our online SALONS OF THE YEAR coverage is the next best thing to traveling around the country and visiting these salons in person. Tours depart at any moment around the clock, don’t miss the fun at salontoday.com!
