Introducing the 2023 Oribe Holiday Collection: Eternal Rituals
Oribe continues its tradition of artist collaborations with multidisciplinary artist and designer Louis Barthélemy who designed the artwork for seven limited-edition gift sets of top Oribe products.

This season, salons can entice holiday shoppers with artistic and unique gifts of beauty, in the form of Oribe’s 2023 Holiday Collection: Eternal Rituals. The 2023 lineup consists of seven, limited-edition gift sets, highlighting Oribe’s heritage craftsmanship and vivid storytelling by multidisciplinary artist and designer Louis Barthélemy. The whimsical narrative packaging celebrates the timeless daily ritual of experiencing self-affirmation and pampering through hair care. Each of the seven sets promises to be an eye-catching standout among this season's retail options in the salon.

THE ORIBE HOLIDAY TRADITION

Introducing the 2023 Oribe Holiday Collection: Eternal Rituals
Craftsmanship and artistic expression are the hallmarks of the Oribe holiday collections.

Since 2018, Oribe has partnered with various artists and makers to design limited-edition packaging for its holiday collections. Among the contributors were Japanese Master calligrapher Aoi Yamaguchi, Native American Artisan Rowan Harrison and French interior design atelier Antoinette Poisson.

"We’re learning that the fun of these collaborations is in the journey," says Vince Stavale, Executive Director of Packaging for Oribe Hair Care. "When selecting an artist to collaborate with, we seek out deeply authentic storytelling moments and view our artistic partnerships as an opportunity to explore the pinnacle of where human creativity, artistic expression and traditional craft intersect. The values of craft encompass excellence, willingness to push beyond boundaries and the merging of mastery with modern thinking which is very much part of the brand’s philosophy. This year, we were inspired by Louis’s exploration and appreciation of ancient Egyptian craft and iconography, both of which have had a vast and long-standing impact on art, design, and fashion throughout the Mediterranean and the world."

For Louis, the brand inspired his approach to the artwork. "I researched the brand and its founder Oribe Canales," he says, "and also tried to connect the brand to the part of the world where I’m based. I looked at the importance of the world of hair and hairstyles in ancient Egypt, and found it was crucial in defining social status and identity. I drew a story around gods, goddesses, and deities in ancient Egypt, bringing in a lot of different references from art deco, and put it together in illustrations to tell the story of the queen and her rituals of hair care. By bringing a historical context to the project, we’re able to share a historical lesson with Oribe Hair Care consumers."

ORIBE CANALES’ GLAMOUR AND SPIRIT

Introducing the 2023 Oribe Holiday Collection: Eternal Rituals
Eternal Rituals tells the story of a glamorous, long-haired deity whose hair flows like the Nile River.   Secret symbols and characters are embedded throughout the artwork.

"Ancient Egypt inspires me because it is an Egyptian heritage, an African heritage, but above all a universal heritage that belongs to us all,” says Louis, who was born in Lyon, France and currently divides his time between Marrakesh, Paris, and Cairo.

Introducing the 2023 Oribe Holiday Collection: Eternal Rituals
Artist Louis Barthélemy crafted a series of images inspired by Egyptian iconography and ancient hair care rituals.

Louis reveals that there are three vertical works in the Eternal Rituals collection that are inspired by  Egyptian papyrus scrolls. The scenes within the artwork tell the story of a sublime long-haired deity, whose magnificent hair flows upward like the Nile as it is tended by characters engraved in the colorful columns. The whimsical narrative celebrates the timeless daily ritual of self-affirmation and pampering through hair care.

Also notable are the two-color palettes representing day and night. In Cairo, as the sun sets, the warm earth tones and the dusty city disappear into the shadows and are replaced by the electric glow of neon signs along the Nile, casting otherworldly tones upon the shadows. "Through the organic process of creating the artwork, we found this natural inspiration that drove us to the more traditional 'day' colorway that was juxtaposed against the vibrant surprising colorway of 'night,'” explains Louis.
