Now THIS Is a Great Makeover

When   A   lyssa Wiener  (@lys seon) of STYLIN' Norwalk, CT, was asked for the steps to the dramatic makeover, she listed the first step as "THE CONSULTATION!"

This should NOT be a surprise to any professional out there. "Tara was a new client referred by one of my regulars. She called the salon saying 'my hair is a mess. I can't explain it. It's just a mess.' So the first step was for her to come in to talk so I could assess the situation. This is my typical route for most new clients so I know what to book for." Wiener explains that Tara "came in tears. She wanted her old blue hair lifted out and replaced with red. When her old stylist lifted her hair, there was still blues and greens leftover and then that pink and orange disaster happened. With Splat."

Second step "was letting Tara know that this was indeed a color correction, and will be $100 per hour up to 4 hours. We also talked about introducing Olaplex since her hair was so fried."

Here Wiener shares the rest of the steps to bring Tara closer to a professional finish:

Step 3 :  Apply  Olaplex  mixed with Scruples power blonde an d 30 vol to try and lift out that Splat. "It wouldn't budge! At this point I let Tara know that if she wanted healthy hair and a fierce color that we should revise our plan and cut the old color out. She was totally for it."

Step 4: Rinse the lightener and use a quick filler: Scruples Hypnotic 9NG + 7C . Apply to damp hair for 3-5 minutes.

Step 5: Now go in with colors. Root shadow:  blend Pravana Red, Urban Shock red and a bit of Pravana Violet (blended with Olaplex).

Step 6:  Melt the next shades using color papers from Scruples. Blend the second color melting into that shade: Pravana Red and Manic Panic Rock N Roll Red. Blend along the mids.

Step 7: To the ends apply Urban Shock Orange mixed with Pravana Orange.

Step 8: To the shaved side apply the mids red with the orange on the longer pieces.

Step 9: Process for 30 minutes.

Step 10: Rinse in cold water, step 2 Olaplex, shampoo and condition with Biolage RepairInside.

"I always give my color correction clients a complimentary deep conditioner in a couple weeks and $5 off their next appointment. She prebooked her next for 8 weeks to keep it vibrant!"
