Six years after its launch, ikoo hair care company, based in Munich, Germany, announces its entry into the American market. Ikoo was founded by Christopher and Katrin Von Hallwyl, who say they wanted to create clean, high-performing and innovative hair care products and tools for women to empower women.

The US launch is in partnership with Sally Beauty Holdings Salon Professional Segment, Beauty Systems Group. According to their press release, ikoo is growing rapidly, and has on average an increase in sales of more than 100%, year on year. The deal signed in August 2019 "changed the structure of the company and its size overnight," said Katrin Von Hallwyl.

Ikoo’s beauty signature is an illustrated woman, Lola. "We are unapologetic when we say our brand is made for women to empower women,“ says Katrin. “Our motto is you don’t have to fit in to have great hair.“  The brand imagery features women of diverse sizes, hair types, and skin color.

"We have witnessed a large demand for challenger brands, as consumers drive the need for new products and innovations, retailers are turning to the indies to keep the trends turning, which is not only exciting for us but the overall market," says Christopher.

"When deciding our approach on how to enter the US, it was a hard decision, however we believe with the conviction of beauty professionals and the credibility it has within the retail sector, it’s a great foundation for us and we decided working with BSG was the right partner for ikoo. There are plans to launch within the premium retail sector, having already had a solid launch in Neiman Marcus last year.“
